Porto Central is a greenfield port project in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. The phase 1 marine works contract consists of 60 million m3 dredging works and the construction of a 2500 m long breakwater. Challenges aspects for the works are the soil conditions (a mix of soft clay, silty sand, and stiff to hard clay), a complex wave and swell climate, and tight milestones to enable concurrent works by other contractors.
The contract for the marine works is drafted on the basis of an existing standard form (FIDIC Blue Book 2016), and further tailored completely to fit the specifics of the project.
The Early Contractor Involvement provided further input for preparing the final set of documents.
The impact of turbidity generated by the dredging works is a concern for the health of the nearby rhodolith beds. Therefore an Adaptive Dredging Management Plan is developed and integrated in the contractual framework.
